History:
The Auckland Officers Club (Inc) began life 1840 as The Auckland
Garrison Officers Club and is the oldest club in Auckland. Disbanded
after the land wars, it was reconstituted in 1903 following the Boer War
when it was housed in the Officers' Mess in the Rutland Street Militia
Drill Hall.
After many years in
leased premises in Queen's Arcade, the club purchased the house of the
Moodabe family in 1972. This gracious two-storey building was located in
Edgerley Avenue, a quiet cul-de-sac off Broadway in Newmarket. In 2007
the premises was sold and the club co located with the Northern club.
Many distinguished
officers have been members and amongst the Past Presidents are the late
Air Chief Marshall Sir Keith Park (of Battle of Britain fame) and
Governor General Sir David Beattie.
